The Sri Adikesavaperumal Temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvattar, India and is one of the 108 Divya desams, the holy sites of Hindu Vaishnavism according to existing Tamil hymns from the seventh and eighth centuries C.E. The temple is a picturesque setting surrounded on three sides by rivers namely, (River Kothai, River Pahrali and River Thamirabarani). The Lord AdiKesavaSwamy means 'Foremost Friend'. Legend says that Lord AdiKesavaSwamy defeated the demon Kesi. The demon's wife prayed to the River Ganges and to River Thamirabarani and created a destruction. But it was in vain and she surrendered to the Lord. Thus, the formation of the rivers made in a circle came to be known as Thiruvattaru.
There is a note in the puranic book Puranaanooru about the city "Thiruvattaru". Namalwar called the Lord Perumal as "Vaattattran". There are around 45 inscriptions found in this temple including First Kulothunga Chola's inscription. The temple was built during Cholas, Vetanattu Kings, Thruvathangur Kings period.The temples inner fortress remains the Thanjavur temples' fortress. This temple was built around the land area constructed on the floor araised 18 steps from the river. There are 224 pillars decorated with lamping girl icon around the mandapam. This lamping girl icon is known as Deepalakshmi.There are also 2300 sculptures found. The temple has got Sribali Mandapam which is 13.15 meters in length and 12.40 meters in width. The wood sculptures, Single-stone mandapam, Udayamarthanda Namaskara Mandapam and Sastha Temple front elevation are depicted with puranic stories.The main idol is in 22 feet length. The Lord perumal made up of pepper and sugar, found slept upon Snake is 16008 feet in length.

After conducting this pooja, the temple will be closed. Daily after conducting Uchikala pooja, White Rice, Yeriseri Kootu Curry is offered as prasadham to the devotees. Moreover salted mango, Puzhiseri are also given to the devotees. Lord perumal destroyed all bad evil and stayed in the sleeping posture by suppressing it. By doing all prarthanas, it is believed that all the diseases are cured and people are blessing with goodness.

Big Amirthu

This festival is conducted during the month of Aadi and Thai and the pooja conducted by using scent and 108 food varieties are also available. The food is made up of by not using Green Chilly and Tamarind and only pepper is used. This festival is celebrated along with Kalapooja.

Kala Pooja

This festival is conducted for 12 days from the first 1st day of Thai month and conducted after the Usha pooja. Big amirthu function is conducted on the very next day of Kala pooja.

UrchavaBali

This pooja is conducted on day 5,6,7 on the month of Aipasi and Panguni by 12.00 noon.

Sadhursada Pooja

This pooja is started early in the morning and conducted till noon.

Udaya Asthamana Pooja

This pooja is conducted from morning till night. All these poojas are conducted by Thantry based on Pooja rules.
